Seven small changes that make ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini answers clearer, each shown with a rough prompt and a better one you can copy.
A vague prompt gets a vague answer. These seven fixes are small, they work in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and each one is shown with a rough prompt and a clearer version you can copy and change.
1. Say the goal
Before: Write about marketing.
After: Write 5 Instagram captions for a home bakery launching a new sourdough loaf. Friendly tone, under 20 words each.
2. Say who it is for
Before: Explain how a mortgage works.
After: Explain how a mortgage works to someone buying their first home. Use plain words and one simple example.
3. Say the format
Before: Compare these two laptops.
After: Compare these two laptops in a table with rows for price, battery life, weight and best use. End with a one-line recommendation.
4. Set a length
Before: Summarise this article.
After: Summarise this article in 5 bullet points, each under 20 words.
5. Give an example
Before: Write product descriptions.
After: Write product descriptions in this style: “Soft cotton tee. Cut for movement. Made to be worn daily.” Now write one for a canvas tote bag.
6. Give the AI a role
Before: Review my cover letter.
After: Act as a hiring manager for a marketing role. Review my cover letter and tell me the three weakest sentences and how to fix each.
7. Ask it to check itself
Before: Plan my study week.
After: Plan my study week for three exams. If anything is unclear, ask me up to three questions first, then list your assumptions before the plan.
A simple checklist
Before you send: goal (what do I want?), audience (who is it for?), format (how should it look?), length (how much?). Four short answers turn most rough prompts into good ones.
Let AIPorter do it in the box
The Optimize button sits under the message box on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini (or press Alt+O). It rewrites what you typed into a clearer prompt, in the same box, before you send it. You read it, change it if you like, and send. The text is sent to AIPorter's server and an AI provider to rewrite it, and it is not stored. You can see the details in what AIPorter sends.
Without an account you get 3 optimizations a day. A free account gets the same plus 2 exports; Pro has 50 optimizations a day.

AIPorter is a free Chrome extension for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. It is independent and not made by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.
